We loved that we could support the 57 students who opted stay on campus for this time period. I know they were well supported with additional staff in place and online academic support during prep as per the usual homework study time — one of the many great reasons to become a boarder!

The final words this week come from Year 7 student Clementine, who reflected about her teachers when learning from home. Schools are strange places without the buzz of amazing young people, and we hope that we may stay open for the remainder of the year.

To me it is about enabling staff and students to explore their capabilities when there is a problem to be solved, especially one which may be unique, or may be tackled using a range of approaches. Finally, we must know that we can fail fast as we challenge the status quo.

More and more we are seeing that student agency can give students the ownership of their learning which enables them to go next level. The art of innovation is to use reflection and critical thinking to develop learner sophistication. Increasingly I see our students having an innovative mindset in their learning. Be it in eSport games competitions, creating theatre, tackling the big problems facing humanity or simply by changing up the House sports competition, the use of an innovative approach in learning creates renewal and inspiration.

It can unleash the imagination and power the inquiring soul. The Torrens Park Campus team staff and students , even as we near the end of a big term, are still prepared to be open to activities and approaches which require energy and engagement.

I often drop into Ligertwood Library and have a quick chat, but also am mindful of the learning that students are engaged in. I am looking forward to continuing to nurture an innovative learning environment at Scotch. Our learners deserve to know they have the power to be the change they want to be.

The Middle School Cross Country was a great success today, despite a course change at the last moment due to the increased flow in the creek. Assistant Head of Sport Casey Harnett, did a brilliant job to ensure that we had a safe course, even though most seemed to somehow get muddy and wet - oh the joys! Finally, I know that many of our country families are doing a little dance of joy tonight after the rains. In Year 8, both classes broke up into to smaller groups of and devised their own scripts based on their favourite TV shows and films. I found it hilarious to watch recreated versions of my favourite scenes and I enjoyed the countless improvised jokes and the fact that these students are able to learn so much when having fun.

The students learnt basic stage craft, blocking and how to communicate a character through the use of their body, face and voice. Each class chose an iconic concept to adapt into short minute plays to then be performed to our ELC students.

Their rendition of the Mr Men and Little Miss pictured series and the twist put on the timeless classic, The Muppets , created the foundation to take the levels of creativity anywhere they wanted. The execution of these performances were refined to reflect the talent of these students and was enjoyable for all the younger students as well as a handful of senior students and parents in attendance.

The Year 10 program allows freedom and support when it comes to the devised pieces. The first play, Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse , is written by Jemma Turnbull and is an exploration of the absurd perfectionistic world of Barbie.

The design of the show has a 2-dimensional feel and focusses on three episodes that explore stereotypical themes like a fashion show, a birthday party and a sleep over. Harry wanted to fuse several styles of theatre together. There are some serious topics like illness, some coarse language and adult themes, as well as bullying, sexuality, expectations and career choices.

This play is a mix of comedy, naturalistic content, realism and quite unrealistic presentational techniques. The actors merging from one scene to the next is an alienation and post-modern technique employed and the students. They handle this sophisticated style of theatre with ease.

Stage 1 drama is also looking at stereotypes and the idea of Brechtian theatre with their show, Behind the Scene. During a lunchtime session, Dr Dowling answered many questions about cyber-attacks, misinformation, and the importance of critically consuming media.

The Political Society aims to run many more events over the course of the next couple of years, possibly involving events for both the upcoming State and Federal elections. This then moved to an Australian perspective looking at Indigenous Australians and how the impact of the Stolen Generation impacted a generations health over time. The house which young indigenous Australians were bought to as part of the separation policy, no longer stands, however the park acts as a memorial and act of reconciliation for the indigenous children taken from their families over this time period.

Students spent 30 minutes in the park, listening to stories, reading perspectives and reflecting on the events that happened. Going to the Colebrook House made me realise the true grief and sadness these people had to endure for so many years. Seeing the reality and different perspectives of how people truly felt made me realise how difficult these times were for these people and the devastation they went through.

It shows that it is not enough to just say 'sorry' but to truly imbed this and to ensure nothing to that extent ever occurs again. When you realise the true pain parents and their children went through, it leaves you shocked to as how something of that proportion was ever able to be initiated.

Knowing the importance of family relations to the aboriginal culture, you can only imagine the effect being taken away from your family and them essentially becoming strangers to you could have on one and how disconnected they would feel.
