In holes Stanley met a boy named Zero, and Zero helped change from a shy person to a brave person. He got made fun of for being overweight,was poor and was unlucky. I strongly believe that you should read this well developed book, for it has fascinating characters, the great message, and the astounding plot. The 14 year old and main protagonist of the story named Stanley Yelnats goes through a series of unfortunate events that leads him into an abusive camp.

He is overweight, lonely in school, and gets bullied frequently. In the camp, the requirement every day is to dig a hole five feet deep, and five feet. In Holes won the Newberry Award. Louis Sachar creates a staggering tale of adventure, mystery and destiny that can be enjoyed by all.

Sachar employs a very unique style of writing into Holes. He intertwines various stories with depth and meaning. He survived by climbing to the top of a thumb shaped mountain which he called God's thumb which happened to be Sam's old onion field.

Yelnats is Stanley Yelnats' mother. She does not believe in curses and always tries to point out the luck that the Yelnats' have had. Yelnats is Stanley's father. He is an inventor who is smart and persistent, but unlucky. His attempts to discover a way to recycle old sneakers cause the Yelnats' apartment to smell very bad. Eventually he discovers a cure to foot odor and is able to hire the lawyer, Ms.
